Introduction

There are various rumors that the Haunting of Hill House is based on a  true story. However, to clear things up it is not in fact true. It is a fictional story written by Shirley Jackson. In chapter 1 we are introduced to the main character, Dr. John Montague. He is obsessed with haunted houses and has been looking for an honestly haunted house his entire life. When he came across Hill House he decided that he wanted to live there and see what actually happened there. He extended the invitation to about a doezwn people to stay with him for the summer in Hill House. Each person received a letter inviting them.
