Chapter 3

The chapter starts out with Eleanor arguing with her brother-in-law and sister about Eleanor taking the car to Hill House. We are introduced to Eleanors brother-in-law and we soon learn he is arrogant and pompous. We also meet Eleanors sister, Carrie whom Eleanor despises. Anyway, the entire chapter in a nutshell is about how both Carrie and her husband do not want her to take the car even though she has paid for half of it already. The chapter concludes with Eleanor crashing into an elderly woman when she is getting out of a taxi. She makes the old lady drop her groceries and Eleanor offers to pay her for the damaged goods. When the lady declines, Eleanor pays for a taxi to take the old lady home.
