chapter 4-6
In this part of the novel, Eleanor is flashing back to memories of her childhood. However she could not remember a winter before her father passed away. She is reminiscing as she drives to the house. Finally Eleanor arrives at the house. She immediately observes the front gate as ominous and heavy. The whole place feels eerie and a bit suspenseful. A man appeared before her at the gate, demanding to know who she is and why she has come. After a few minutes of bickering, he finally lets her in and says that she will be sorry that he ever opened the gate. As Eleanor enters the house she shivered and thought to herself that Hill House is vile. She must leave at once. We are now introduced to numerous characters; Mrs. Dudley, Theodora, and Doctor Montague (officially introduced).
