The End
I am ending where I tell you about The Haunting of Hill House right here. The main reason is because I do not want to spoil the ending. In my opinion I think if you really want to know how to the story ends, then you should read it. I loved this book, and I could not put it down, even though it was extremely scary and suspensful. If you enjoy these types of novels, The Haunting of Hill House is the novel for you. The Haunting of Hill House is definitely a classic ghost story, and I highly recommend you read it!
A Twist
During the night Both Eleanor and Theodora hear a low, steady sound. They awake and hold each others hands so tight that they can feel each others bones. The voice lifted sometimes for an emphasis on a mumbled word, sometimes falling to a breath. Then after a while there was a little laugh, and babbling. In a second however, the voice cut off with a painful gasp...the girls shuddered. Then it continued. The chapter ends with Eleanor flinging herself out of her bed and screaming because she realized that she was not holding Theodora's hand..This part scared me to death, I had to put my book down after I read that to regain my composure. This is an excellent book.

A Turning Point
At this point in the novel, the house becomes more and more haunted. Strange events occur at the home. My favorite part of the whole novel was after dinner when Theodora suggested that it was a perfect time for a ghost story. Dr. Montague begins to tell the story of Hill House. He tells the guests that the house has numerous scandals of suicide, madness and lawsuit. However, Theodora, Eleanor and Luke ask what is so haunted about the house? Montague replies, "I will not put a name to what has no name. I don't know." It is my favorite part because Shirley Jackson sets the mood of the entire chapter with an eerie kind of darkness to it.
chapter 4-6
In this part of the novel, Eleanor is flashing back to memories of her childhood. However she could not remember a winter before her father passed away. She is reminiscing as she drives to the house. Finally Eleanor arrives at the house. She immediately observes the front gate as ominous and heavy. The whole place feels eerie and a bit suspenseful. A man appeared before her at the gate, demanding to know who she is and why she has come. After a few minutes of bickering, he finally lets her in and says that she will be sorry that he ever opened the gate. As Eleanor enters the house she shivered and thought to herself that Hill House is vile. She must leave at once. We are now introduced to numerous characters; Mrs. Dudley, Theodora, and Doctor Montague (officially introduced).
Chapter 3
The chapter starts out with Eleanor arguing with her brother-in-law and sister about Eleanor taking the car to Hill House. We are introduced to Eleanors brother-in-law and we soon learn he is arrogant and pompous. We also meet Eleanors sister, Carrie whom Eleanor despises. Anyway, the entire chapter in a nutshell is about how both Carrie and her husband do not want her to take the car even though she has paid for half of it already. The chapter concludes with Eleanor crashing into an elderly woman when she is getting out of a taxi. She makes the old lady drop her groceries and Eleanor offers to pay her for the damaged goods. When the lady declines, Eleanor pays for a taxi to take the old lady home.

Chapter 2 introduction of characters
We learn each about each character that will be staying at the house. The first is Eleanor Vance. She is miserable and hates her mother, but she's dead. Therefore, she hates her sister, brother-in-law and her 5 year old niece. She cant remember a time that she was a genuinely happy person.Theodora was the complete opposite of Eleanor. Theodora's world was full of delight and soft colors. She is accepting Dr. Montague's invitation because she and her roommate had gotten into a quarrel. Luke Sanderson was a liar and thief. His aunt, the owner of Hill House praises him, like he is an angel. The end of the chapter states that one day he will inherit Hill House, but he had never actually planned on living in it.

Introduction
There are various rumors that the Haunting of Hill House is based on a true story. However, to clear things up it is not in fact true. It is a fictional story written by Shirley Jackson. In chapter 1 we are introduced to the main character, Dr. John Montague. He is obsessed with haunted houses and has been looking for an honestly haunted house his entire life. When he came across Hill House he decided that he wanted to live there and see what actually happened there. He extended the invitation to about a doezwn people to stay with him for the summer in Hill House. Each person received a letter inviting them.
